Happy New Year and Welcome back!
Important Things to Know:
A few parents have asked, what do teachers do on early release Wednesday. On Wednesdays we work as grade level teams to break down state standards into appropriate learning chunks and talk about how to best teach them. We go through the PLC Cycle. You ask…What is the PLC CYCLE? It is a 4-6 week cycle where each grade level team answers the following questions about teaching and learning:
1. What does my learner need to know and be able to do?
2. How will we know if each learner has learned it?
3. How will we respond when some learners don’t get it?
4. How will we extend learning when our learners do get it?
During this process we look at what each individual learner needs and what the grade level needs as a whole. This is also a time when we grow our understandings as professionals.
CELEBRATIONS…
· Sending a big shout out to Beadle Lake students who sent thank you cards to the Love Thy Neighbor Food Pantry and drew pictures for our Firefighters.
· Sending a s big shout out to all those students that have been caught doing the right thing. Check out the shopper at the end of January as some of our students are highlighted for being kind and doing the right thing.
JUST THE FACTS…Every Kid Every Day
Attendance is critical…
· Beadle Lake conducted attendance meetings in December. 46% of families that were invited showed for the meetings to discuss student progress.
· Attendance meetings will be conducted again on February 8th & 9th. It is imperative if you receive an invitation that you attend.
Here’s why…
· Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
· When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.

Miss Mary's Memo
Whenever your child visits the Health Office every effort is made to notify parents. You will be notified by phone, or in some cases a note will be sent home with your child depending on the seriousness of their injury or illness. Please be sure the office has updated phone numbers. Not every situation will require a phone call or a note. Be sure to check your child’s backpack for notes and ask your child about their day.
We also ask you to use the following guidelines and keep your child at home if they are experiencing any of the following:
-
A fever greater than 99.0
-
Vomiting and/or diarrhea
-
Rash, especially with a fever or behavior change
-
Coughing up Phlegm and/or frequent sneezing or severe runny nose
-
Difficulty breathing
-
Unable to eat
-
Headache with aches and pains
-
Yellowish drainage and/or redness to eyes, which may be an indication of Pink eye.
-
Sore throat with a fever, large tonsils, presence of white spots in back of throat, redness or swelling to throat. (Please check with your physician if these symptoms are present.)
If your child is injured at school and requires medical attention from a doctor or medical provider, please bring or send a doctor’s note to school. If there are medical restrictions, we need to know what the restrictions are and how long the restrictions are in effect. We will also need to know of any special accommodations. The doctor’s note must be dated and brought in when the student returns to school. If the student will be out of school for any length of time, be sure and call the attendance line with detailed information.
The following are guidelines about when your child may return to school after being ill:
-
After they have had no fever for 24 hours WITHOUT THE USE OF FEVER REDUCING MEDICATION
-
24 Hours after starting antibiotics
-
24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
Please contact me by phone 269-441-3253, or email [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns. My office hours are Monday through Friday 9am to 3pm.
News From 1st Grade
Our first graders are greatly enjoying SPLASH-a 5 week program designed to teach healthy habits. The program is taught by ISD teacher Mr. Winchell. A typical 30 minute class includes a story about fitness and nutrition and a special taste testing. Students have enjoyed munching on fruit leather and various citrus fruits. Many even tried grapefruit for the first time! Don't let the sour faces fool you-they've been having a sweet time!
